One of the things I think is most important to gaining blog traffic is making sure no one is getting sick of or annoyed by something on your blog that’s causing people to stop reading it. It’s fairly easy to make that happen with a bit of common sense- write good blog posts of high quality, have a nice design, etc. But you may be missing something about your blog that’s costing you a lot of traffic and brand opportunities.
TICK, TOCK, TICK, TOCK GOES YOUR INTERNET
When you’re making/ choosing a blog design, it is extremely important that it’s really quick to load. Think about it, when you’re waiting for something to load, if it takes more than about 30 seconds (and sometimes less than that is enough to annoy people) you close the tab or proceed to calmly throw your entire computer and the Internet modem across the room. So having a clean and quick to load blog is an absolute must.
WELL THAT’S JUST WHATEVER
The human race is pretty selfish. There’s no point reading someone’s content if it doesn’t help us in some way- so the same applies to you as a writer. Make your content important, special and memorable. Make it quality. If it isn’t relevant to anyone, it’s not as likely to get many hits, and your blog will go downhill.
AND YOU CALL YOURSELF A ‘SELFIE QUEEN?’
can will make or break your blog. Good photography makes people come back really quickly and poorly lit photos/ blurry photography/pixelated images will make your blog look unprofessional and boring. You don’t have to be an amazing photographer to make the photos on your blog look clean and better. Some of my pro tips would be to use natural light (ALWAYS. If the sun isn’t looking great, there is always tomorrow. This can’t be compromised!), stay still when taking the photo and edit it if it’s looking a bit of the dark or overcast side.
IF FREE VIRTUAL COINS AREN’T ON THE LINE, I’M NOT INTERESTED
*My thoughts exactly when an ad comes up when I’m playing a game on my iPad! XD* If your site is clogged up by ads- either on the sidebar or nothing but sponsored posts, your blog can look a lot less inviting. Sure, we all have a bit of sponsored content every now and again, because we need a bit of money to make it as a blogger, but too much? Unfollow.
I DON’T WANT TO BE RUDE, BUT YOU’RE KILLING ME INSIDE
Because spelling and grammar. Text-speak and leaving out full stops are a 100% no-no. It kills me inside when a blogger looks like they’ve given zero attention to the grammar and spelling freaks like me- and written something like ‘ths table is gr8 for flat lays It’s amazing and I ❤ it!”AAAAAAHHHH. Stahp. It kills us and drives readers away very, very, quickly.
TAKE US WITH YOU
Took that subtitle from the song Portugal by Walk The Moon. But, it still applies here. Make readers feel important. Reply to comments and check out the blogs of the people who follow you (read: check out. You don’t have to follow them just because they followed you. You only want to be following something that you actually want to read). There are many blogs I have stopped commenting on because I know I’m not going to get a response- and comments are something you want, right?
WE CAN HAVE FUN, BUT PROFESSIONALISM IS KINDA NEEDED
It’s okay to be funny and quirky. I mean, just read this post. There are GIFs of pandas throwing computers and weird-as subtitles. Personality is important for a blog- otherwise, it feels like reading a robot. But that doesn’t mean you can lose quality and professionalism amongst all that. Make sure people know that you can write, too. It’s important.
Anything you noticed can drive you/ people away from a blog- without realising it?
