The phrase is so common today: You’re too young. The reality of everything that the world is going through and always will is too much for you to bear so we will hide you from your world, that, quite frankly, is rather horrific. And I get that. Someone who has barely spent any time on this planet has a right to wait before becoming best friends with the world and hearing all its secrets. But with a curious, young, hungry little mind, a few books, and some conclusion jumping, here’s what a little girl (or at least this one) can find out.
The world actually isn’t sunshine and rainbows. It’s expected that until you hit 18 life is just like ‘doo doo doo doo doo… what’s up next? Whatever, the world’s safe.’ But what some adults don’t really understand is that that’s not how it works. I’ve got a plentiful amount of time before I hit 18 (or whatever) and I’m already worrying about things like ISIS and things like that.
Only the other day I was raiding my parent’s book shelf and it’s basically just books about the world’s many, many, problems. ‘Sorry, We Have No Space’, ‘Why We Hate’, ‘Target Iran’? Maybe I just have very ‘up-to-date’ parents about the world’s problems, but nevertheless, I know things anyway and it’s not exactly hidden. Gossip always lets out the secrets, and the world is no different.
I don’t exactly have a lesson or something I want you to take away from this, but I just wanted to share my insights. If you are a parent and you are reading this, it’s up to you what your little kids find out or know. But this is what they will learn anyway.
I hope you enjoyed this post. Let me know what you think in the comments.
Much love xx
